AS IT IS

NATURE BRUTE

Charcoal Drawings

2014-2021

Over the last few years the countryside near my home or on my travels has inspired me to create large scale charcoal drawings. These areas are where the struggle to survive is ongoing; where drought, fire and flood have shaped the landscape over thousands of years. In spite of such hostile surroundings trees and plants manage to grow in small pockets of soil, hanging onto life by a thread. My eye is taken to the light, texture, form and space of each site with the aim of creating a sense of place where the viewer can experience and wonder at the tenacity of nature.
Roz Avent is an artist currently living in Central Victoria, Australia, who's work confronts the struggle to survive  and thrive in hostile environments. These environments might be psychological, physical or existential.
